Michael Laubli is a blooming artist from regional Australia. Born to Swiss parents, he has lived and worked his whole life in the Albury Wodonga area, and he has been an ardent promoter and supporter of the arts and in the community, showing his work widely at galleries, cafe's and most recently at the MAMA museum, where two of his coin drops grace the bottom floor of the new museum. Michael's creative genius flows to him from all areas. Wherever his mind goes, he pulls work down out of the collective unconscious and welds and fashions art that makes the onlooker resonate with familiarity. He draws from myths, legends, society, and pop culture, cutting, welding, hammering and polishing his work.
His best work captures effortlessly gestural poses of creatures real and imaginary, in whimsical repose or taut action. Many people first resond to his work assuming it is on the basic scale of any welder until they look closer, and see the degree to which Michael encapsulatesa moments frozen in time, with a facial expression or posture that is, well, perfect. But the best measures of his work are his unswerving and instant fans: small children! They respond with open-mouthed wonder at the world Michael talks about, because it is their world. One free of pretense, and full or passion for unleashed joy and wonder. Michael has worked on individual pieces ranging in size from a handful to over 4 meters high, for commissions, managed and delivered public art works on time and budget, and has built his business organically to where it is now. Michael is available for commissions, many of his works are for sale, and he is very approachable, collaborative, and interested in the process of creating unique elements for your home or collection suited specifically to the overlap of his sensibilities and yours.
